Welcome to the first site dedicated to issues and opportunities for leadership and management in urban schools.

We believe that schools serving urban and disadvantaged communities have common leadership issues whether they are Primary, or Secondary schools or Academies, Special schools, Children’s centres., or FE Colleges. They require the same leadership and management skills as their colleagues working in rural or more affluent areas but their urban dimension requires that their leaders have an extra context in terms of leadership competencies particularly in the areas of vision and belief , emotional intelligence and enduring resilience.

In our parent site (www.urbanleadershipcentre.com) you will discover that the urban leadership centre model was nurtured through a study of successful urban school leaders into a competency approach which provides the key to positive and effective school leadership. Indeed much of our work has a resonance in all schools since the competencies which are at the heart of the model are required to a greater or lesser extent by all our existing or aspiring successful school leaders, both in the UK and beyond.

Successful school leaders are not born with the competencies to succeed. They can develop them and learn them from their first days in the classroom. We provide a pathway to effective school management through competency development and a variety of programmes, which develop the great school leaders of the future.

In the Yorkshire and the Humber region we are proud that the Urban Leadership Centre Ltd has chosen Dial Consultants Ltd to develop the growing and vital business of bringing about real change in school through the development of the competencies of their leaders. Our consultants and leaders are handpicked and are recruited from the most successful urban leaders in schools, colleges and local authorities.
